The 10th Annual Clifton C. Edom TRUTH
WITH A CAMERA WORKSHOP
"This
is the only workshop I know of that takes the student from the
conception of a picture story idea to a final layout suitable
for publication." said Larry Nighswander. Professor, School
of Visual Communication, Ohio University and staff member of the
TRUTH WITH A CAMERA WORKSHOP.
Alex Burrows, Director of Photography, The Virginian-Pilot says,
"This week-long workshop will improve the way you view the
world around you and help you make a difference in your community
and in your life's work."
Mission
It
is the mission of this workshop to improve the way photojournalists
view the world around them and help them make a difference in
their community
Goals
The workshop goals include the development of photographic,
editing and layout skills, job preparation, learning current
methods and technology used in the industry, personal growth,
the understanding of ethics, responsibility to the publication,
the profession and to all members of the community. The workshop
presents a diversity of academic, racial, ethnic, cultural,
socioeconomic, gender and age backgrounds in its staff and participants.
We can only achieve diversity in the newsroom if we are able
to inspire, educate and prepare people from all backgrounds
as photojournalists.
What
Makes This Workshop Different?
"This
is the only workshop I know of that takes the student from the
conception of a picture story idea to a final layout suitable
for publication." said Larry Nighswander. Professor, School
of Visual Communication, Ohio University and staff member of
the TRUTH WITH A CAMERA WORKSHOP.
Alex Burrows, Director of Photography, The Virginian-Pilot says,
"This week-long workshop will improve the way you view
the world around you and help you make a difference in your
community and in your life's work." The last two years
The Virginian-Pilot ran a 2 page color story of selected
photographs from the workshop.
One of the strong points of this workshop is the networking
between the participants and the staff and between the participants
themselves. Year round the staff hears from students who are
seeking job and internship information, suggestions about schools
and workshops for further education, portfolio reviews and feedback
as well as the continuation of discussions on the ethics and
philosophy of photojournalism.
This workshop offers the opportunity to choose the topic of
your story, stretch your abilities, experiment and take technical
risks you may not have time for on your job.
Like every learning situation it is the goal of the staff to
meet you where you are in your development and help take you
further into the field of photojournalism.
