About the SSC:
The Southern Short Course in News Photography is America's longest-running
photojournalism seminar. Originally founded by the Carolinas
Press Photographers Association, the SSC is now a non-profit
independent organization. With its outstanding faculty, the
SSC's sole purpose is to provide educational programs for students
and photojournalists. Even though the word "southern"
is in the name, the competition has no geographic limits and
is open to anyone, student or professional.

As a non-profit organization, we operate on money raised from
attendance fees and donations from newspapers, corporations

Gary
Allen, Raleigh, NC, lead a panel discussion about the business
end of shooting weddings. This style of wedding photography
has become very popular in the last few years. Allen, along
with an expert panel covered topics from web sites to billing
and everything in between.
Gary
has been a working photojournalist for nearly 20 years, most
recently working for the the Raleigh News & Observer for
12 years before becoming a freelancer in 1999. While at the
paper, Gary won numerous awards, including six NC POY Press
titles. He has covered the Olympics, numerous Final Fours, Kentucky
Derbies, ACC Tournaments and too many press conferences to remember.
Although Gary now dedicates himself full-time to
wedding photojournalism,
he also continues to do freelance editorial and corporate work.
He lives in Wilmington, NC with his wife Beverly and teenage
daughter Kerri.

For
nearly a decade, Mark Adams has worked for newspapers and magazines
documenting the people of the communities in which he has lived.
His work has appeared in editorial publications such as the
Anchorage Daily News, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The (Memphis,
Tenn.) Commercial Appeal, The (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) Sun News,
The News York Times, St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times and Time magazine,
among others.
He has received numerous awards for his photography including
First Place in the Hearst Foundation's National Photojournalism
Championship, as well as awards in the Pictures of the Year
competition, Society for News Design, Georgia Press Association
and the South Carolina News Photographers Association.
Mark pursues editorial assignments on a limited basis and now
focuses his energy on more lucrative corporate and advertising
photography opportunities. Mark has also established a successful
wedding photojournalism business in Atlanta. Additionally, Mark
creates high impact multimedia web sites for various individuals
and corporations.
