2002 Wedding Photojournalist Association Photography Contest:

2002 WPJA Wedding Ceremony

FIRST PLACE - Daniel Sheehan [more]

Photo © 2002 by Daniel Sheehan

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

Great, great photo!!! With so much manufactured emotions in wedding photography going on, this is as real as it gets. Photographer stepped back and gave the couple some space, and at the same time it gives the photo a sense of peeking in at an otherwise private moment. Great photo! We can see the couple trusts their photographer. We also loved that there's a hint of blur. It adds to the sense of "this is just happening."

SECOND PLACE - Daniel Sheehan [more]

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

Sheehan's second and third place winners were again, beautiful storytelling images from ceremonies. We enjoyed the light moment from the ceremony in the second place image and the emotion of the third place image. Waiting for the moment, not just any moment, THE moment.

THIRD PLACE - Daniel Sheehan [more]

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

For the third place image, the moment on the bride's face is priceless but we felt we wanted to see the groom's face more clearly.

OVERALL CATEGORY COMMENTS:

First place just blew everything away. Overall the images entered in this category show photographers are working situations very hard but not waiting for the moment.

Daniel Sheehan's winning ceremony photo is truly magnificent. The power of the photograph was truly overwhelming. We felt this image deserved to be called "Best of Show".

So many aspects of the image other than its incredible moment give it strength, the composition, the non-intrusion, the trust. It is a remarkable image filled with life and love and passion.
